As a school community, we are all extremely proud and privileged to work at The Orme Academy. Our sole ethos for the school community is ‘Empowering Learners for Life’. Whilst we value the importance of ensuring that every student makes excellent progress, this concept stretches well beyond academic performance. We firmly believe that every aspect of school should equip learners with the knowledge, skills and cultural capital to be successful in all areas of their lives, both now and for their future.

Some pupils will have additional literacy support in Y7 and 8 and some will follow an alternative curriculum in Y9 more suited to their learning needs.

 

 

Option Process

Students will decide on their GCSE option subjects in Year 9, ready to start in Year 10. They will have the option of following recommended curriculum pathways according to their academic ability.

Years 10 & 11 curriculum intent

In Years 10 and 11, as well as following a core curriculum, students are able to choose from a range of courses to make up their studies. These courses include traditional GCSEs, applied GCSEs and BTecs. This gives students the opportunity to gain at least 9 GSCEs or equivalent. Students follow either an academic or vocational pathway, depending on their choice of courses, providing an excellent route for advanced studies in Further Education and beyond. Students are also involved in Focus days.

All students take a common core of subjects:

English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Science, Computing, Religious Education, Careers, Physical Education, and Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE).

Additionally students are able to choose courses from:

GCSE courses in: Geography, History, French, Art and Design, Art and Photography, Music, Food Technology, Resistant Materials, Product Design, Computer Science, Triple Science, Information Technology, Business and Communication Systems and Physical Education.

BTEC/OCR Cambridge Nationals courses in: Construction and Cooking.

Alternative Curriculum: Some pupils will have the opportunity of following vocational courses at local colleges or with external providers such as Martec or PM training & at Stoke on Trent College.

KS4 information

The students will be ranked in order of ability in their subject area or groups of subjects and placed in appropriate parallel populations of G population and M population

Timetable

The school follows a one week timetable. Each day is split into five, 60 minute periods, with single and double lessons.

Form Period (assembly): 20 minutes

Period 1: 60 minutes

Period 2: 60 minutes

Break: 20 minutes

Period 3: 60 minutes

Period 4: 60 minutes

Lunchtime: 40 minutes

Period 5: 60 minutes

Enrichment Days

On these days, the timetable will be collapsed to allow one Year group to focus on one area of the curriculum for the day. Topics such as Drugs Awareness, Finance Awareness and Child Exploitation will be planned for targeted groups throughout the year. Teachers who deliver these days will have their lessons re-allocated to staff whose lessons have been taken from the regular timetable.

In addition, there will be Y10 and Y11 Data Conferences, a Year 9 Options day and Geography field trips.

Focus days will be limited to around three per Year group and bids for days, with clear objectives, would need to be submitted and would need to be put on the calendar at least a term in advance.
